Drill Setup Instructions
Idea
Structured, step-by-step instructions for physically setting up a drill — target placement, distances, barriers, props, and any special requirements. Attached to a drill definition so that anyone running the drill can reproduce the setup consistently.
Motivation
- LE contact emphasized the need to “take away the thinking” from the team — just tell them what to do, step by step
- Reproducible setups are essential for meaningful score comparison across sessions and locations
- New organizers and ROs need clear guidance — not everyone has run every drill before
- Reduces the “tribal knowledge” problem where only experienced people know how to set things up
- Pairs naturally with drill kits (what you need) and scoring (how results are evaluated)
Open Questions
- Free-text instructions, structured fields, or both?
- Should setup instructions include diagrams or photos? (ties into media system)
- Are instructions per-drill or per-kit?
- Could the 3D drill builder (Bevy, future) auto-generate setup instructions from a visual layout?
- How detailed — just target placement, or also safety briefing, round count, time limits?
