LE Qualification Types

Idea

Support qualification tracking across the full range of LE weapon types — not just handgun. Qualifications for shotgun, beanbag rounds, 40mm launchers, and other less-lethal/specialty weapons each have their own standards and need distinct tracking.

Motivation

• LE departments must maintain qualification records per weapon type for legal compliance
• Current product thinking references “state-level qualifications” broadly but doesn’t address the diversity of weapon types
• Each weapon type may have different scoring criteria, required round counts, and pass/fail thresholds
• A department training officer needs to see at a glance which officers are current on which weapon quals

Open Questions

• How are qualification standards structured? Per-state, per-department, or both?
• Are quals just pass/fail, or do they track detailed scores?
• How often do quals expire and need renewal?
• Should the system ship with pre-built qual templates for common standards, or is every department custom?
• How does this interact with the scoring profile system — is a qual just a drill with a pass/fail scoring profile?
