Beta discovery — early findings vs. feature set

Date: 2026-06-08 Source: Beta testers — Neil Meyers (Cry Havoc Training) and Ann Marie Suter (Code Red Solutions), via discovery replies Context: First two detailed replies from the beta onboarding/discovery conversations. Both are Segment #2 (Private Firearms Instructors) — see Customer Segments. Captured here to track product signal; not roadmap-moving on a two-person, single-segment sample.

Feedback

Validates what’s built

  • Measurable progress is the real hook. Both framed their proudest moments as students measurably breaking through. Ann’s: a legally-blind, cross-dominant student worked up from optics to equal performance on iron sights, now prepping for GSSF competition. Neil’s: students hitting “a new record” / breaking a barrier. Maps directly to append-only score history + Score Dashboard / reporting.
  • Per-individual tracking & custom drills. Ann works in highly individualized remediation (per-student plans); Neil coaches through specific breakthroughs. Fits Roster Builder (per-participant) and Drill Builder (custom drills).

Gaps / out of scope

  • Marketing / getting new business — loudest shared pain, and RDP doesn’t address it. Ann named it outright (“promoting and marketing… relying on others… not current with trends for reaching new business”); Neil’s version was time/resources to grow. Listed as a Private-Instructor need in Customer Segments but nothing in the product delivers lead-gen/acquisition. Open scope call: deliberately out of bounds, or a future wedge?
  • Part-time operators need near-zero setup overhead. Neil is a part-time, mostly-retired solo instructor — time is the binding constraint. Design signal (not a feature gap): drill/event/roster setup must be fast or the smallest orgs won’t adopt.
  • Multi-discipline tracking. Neil also runs CrossFit + unarmed combatives as one practice; RDP scoring is firearms-centric (USPSA/IDPA/Steel, hit factor). Non-firearms progression is out of scope.
  • Competition scoring/scoreboards. Ann has a student heading to GSSF matches. Prep tracking works via score history today; competition scoring + public scoreboards are Future on ROADMAP-PRO.
  • Equipment / sight-configuration comparison. Ann’s optics-vs-irons story implies comparing the same shooter across gear setups — a reporting dimension not currently built (cf. idea notes Official vs custom kit scoring, Persona settings).
  • Billing / registration / scheduling / student comms. Classic Segment-#2 needs; mostly Post-MVP (Authorize.net billing, event enrollment) on ROADMAP-PRO. Roster messaging is in MVP. Neither tester demanded it, but adjacent to Ann’s “reaching new business” frustration.

Response / Resolution

  • Surfaced in the 2026-06-08 Weekly Update (Beta Program & Discovery): measurable-progress signal noted; marketing pain raised to Isaac as a scope question.
  • No roadmap changes — directional only until more replies land (GOAT/Jeremiah outstanding, and no Segment-#1 church-security data yet).
  • Revisit once more discovery replies are in.
